This is the only picture that I have of our lovely evening at the Sound of Music this past Friday night. Unfortunately I forgot the camera (not that you can take any pictures at the show anyway!) - but it would have been nice to see us and the kids (Esther and Caleb) all dressed up for the show!

Alvar and I bought tickets waaayyy back in February already to go and see the Sound of Music. Originally we were going to go with just the 2 of us - but then Alvar found a great deal online for a package of 4 tickets for the same price as 2. So, we decided to take Esther and Caleb with as well. We kept it a surprise until the day before - and the kids were excited to go!

I dropped off Anna at Aunt Yell's house, as she was a bit too young to go. She was SUPER excited about it, spending one on one time with her "Aunt" - she told every stranger possible prior to dropping her off that she would be staying overnight at her Aunt Yell's house and everything (oh, and I should mention too that at the end of her story she would say "NOT Daddy, NOT Mommy, NOT Esther, and NOT Caleb...just Anna!!!). So yah, she had no problem leaving us to stay with Aunt Yell (thanks very much Aunt Yell for taking Anna for the night - I'm not sure in the end who had more fun!!)

We drove into Toronto, had a quick bite to eat and then went off to the show. They did a fantastic job - all the singing, the stage (the way the stage moved) and just everything about the show was great (not that I'm bias - it's only one of my all-time favourite movies!)! We had fantastic seats due to a "problem" with our original picks - we were supposed to be on the balcony, front row (this is partly why we waited to see the show until May) - but we received a letter in the mail a few weeks ago letting us know that our seats were no longer available...so they had to upgrade us to Dress Circle seats - front row and pretty much centre! We weren't going to complain about that! The seats had tons of leg room and gave a very good overview of the entire stage - they were awesome!

Esther noticed all the differences between the movie and the play - and mouthed all the words to the songs that she knew...she thought it was fantastic to see it live on stage! I think she found it really neat that there were kids on the stage too - playing the parts of the children - that some of them were her age - up there, singing and acting! She also thought the movement from one scene to the next was pretty cool too - I don't know if she had any idea really what to expect from the show - it probably far exceeded anything she dreamed of!

We are pretty sure that Caleb enjoyed the show too - although he did get a little antsy here and there (it was a 2 1/2 hour show!) - he did really well. I think he also enjoyed the ice cream chocolates from the couple behind us during intermission....that was a bonus for him (and Esther)! He also really really enjoyed the walk to and from the theatre as there were trolley cars on the road (seriously - life doesn't' get much better then trolley cars!!). He was absolutely fascinated by how they worked and drove in the middle of the road - next time we make it out to Toronto we will definitely be taking a ride on one of those with the kids!

Over all it was a great experience for us all - we always enjoy a good "cultured" event - and this definitely fit the bill - and it was great to share it with the kids this time around too!
