The week in review

The switch
This past week we made a few changes with the sleeping quarters. The original setup was that Anna and Esther shared a room and Caleb slept in his own room. The problems with this setup is that Anna's bed is quite noisy as she moves around at night and there have been a number of times when she is still up at 10. We were afraid these 2 things were disrupting Esther's sleep. Since Caleb is a good and quite sleeper we decided to try put Caleb and Esther in the same rooms again. We tried this before when Anna was first moved from the bassinet into the crib. That plan only worked for a week because that's how long it took Caleb to figure out how to climb out of the bunk bed we setup and climb the ladder into Esther's bed. I still remember taking that bed a part in what was supposed to be a 15 minute job just before bed time but was actually an hour before the new setup was done. Well that was well over 1.5 years ago so we hope Caleb is a bit more co-operative.

So Monday the bunk beds were reassembled and Anna and crib moved in what used to be Caleb's room. Well what a surprise it was when everyone slept through the night, no complains, no crying, no one even woke up early. But yeah, that first night was a late night before it was all done and the kids were ready for bed so they were just tired we thought, we aren't home free yet. Along comes night two which went as well as night one. Actually the whole week went well. Anna has been more quiet this past week than usual and they have slept in more times this week (which means we also sleep in right!) So all in all that is going just great and we have more space in the bed rooms now too.

Practicing Dutch
With just 2 months before our trip to Holland Laura and I decided to practice our Dutch this past week. We've tried this in the past in order to prepare for our trip to Holland. We had sticky notes labelling many things in the house with the Dutch word on them. We picked up some learning kits from the Library and even had friends over and tried to speak Dutch for an evening all with little success. So this past week we decided to do some more practicing but instead of the language which we already tried several times we decided to practice eating the food. Laura practiced with Croquette and I practiced eating Frikandel Speciaal. mmm, we are now ready for Holland.

Nocturnal
We had a good friend over on the weekend - due to the storm she wanted to be able to get to work on time. Esther asked her if she would like to play outside in the snow, but our friend explained to her that she would have to sleep in the afternoon because she had to work a night shift (she is a nurse). Esther promptly replied, "That means your nocturnal!!". Made sense to her :)

Great to have an update again.
Hope Esther and Caleb will sleep good here too next week.
We have lots of snow for them to play in.
