Caleb's dentist visit

Caleb had his first visit to the dentist today. He was looking forward to it and has been talking about it for a while now. The appointment was for 5:30 and when I picked him up at 5:15, Laura had him all ready to go. He was pretty chatty in the van on the way there and as we went into the dentist he still seemed brave and ready for it. That changed a little bit as he was called into the room. At that point he almost tripped me as he clamped on to my leg. He wasn't too interested in the chair but I got him to sit in it. They gave him the "ride" and tried to get him to lay down in the chair but he didn't want to lay down. It took some heavy negotiating to get him to open his mouth and even more to let them shine the light in his mouth. For all this he received his first prize. Laying down in the chair was not part of the deal at first and then we only managed to get him to lay back for about 30 seconds. Two more prizes for his co-operation and his first dentist visit was over. It's also possible that he walked out with 3 prizes because of how cute everyone thought he was. For a first visit I guess it wasn't to bad and now he has another 6 months to gear up before his next checkup. When he came home and Laura asked him how the appointment went, he promptly said it was good - then, after a few seconds of thinking, he decided that no, he didn't like the dentist after all.

Brought back lots of dentist appointment memories. So what were the 3 prizes?

He picked 2 cars and a game. I'm hoping he remebers that prizes for next time and don't think about how much he didn't like it.

Yes, our dentist also gives toys from a "treasure chest". It definitely worked on my kids though. Chelsea has now been two times and the past time went in all by herself. The last couple of weeks we have been talking about what they want to do when they grow up and Chelsea even wants to be a dentist. Hopefully Caleb remembers the toys and will open his mouth longer next time! And I am sure he charmed all the staff... :)
