After Christmas last year - we decided it was time for a REAL Christmas tree. We had received a fake one through free-cycle, but it was slightly lacking in the "realness" department....ok, it was simply very pathetic, but it did the job for us for a couple years!

So, this year we decided that not only would we get a REAL tree, but we would also go out and chop it down ourselves!

So, off we went to Pinedale Farms in Rockton as we were told this was a fairly good place to go (especially price wise!). The kids were quite excited to go and pick out our tree - and I'll admit that I was too, as I had never done this before!

We drove around the entire farm scouting out the perfect tree. By the time we went thru all the areas we were slightly confused...Balsam?? Pine?? Spruce?? We really had no idea which type was which, and when it came down to it, we weren't ready to pay the extra $20 for the upper scale tree! So, back to the main entrance we went - to a rather confused gentleman who kindly let us know that we didn't have a tree yet ;) We asked what to look for and he helped us out (but, much to our dismay we were just as confused the second time around!).

We drove around again, settling on an area, hopped out the van and looked around. I don't think I realized how difficult and time consuming searching for the perfect tree would be! Lots to choose from - you think you found a good one, then, a huge bare patch is found in 3 different places! So much for that one! We got back in the van and went to another area. I do believe this was the kids' most favourite part of the whole day as we allowed them to sit in the back bench - no seat belts and only booster seats for the younger two, and the actual bench for Esther. Hilarious to see their beaming faces as we drove to the next site! Ah the freedom!

Finally, we found our tree - it was there all along, we just missed it the first time. Alvar took out the saw and cut it down (much easier than he thought too!).

We tied the tree up and drove off to pay, the gentleman at the front was impressed that we remembered to get a tree this time and we were impressed that we found the right "priced" tree in the end!

All in all it was kinda fun to search around for that "perfect" tree - maybe a new family tradition has begun!
Oops...guess this tree won't be around next year!
