The weekend

Well, the weekend is long over and we still haven't posted about it. I will have to go back to Thursday though where we had the fear that we would again miss this outing. As you may know we have already had this weekend planned and booked 2 times and had also tossed around 2 or 3 other days as possibilities but they came and went. This time with less than 24 hours to go (the deadline for cancelling and not getting any charges) it was Anna who decided that she should be sick. Thankfully she perked up and actually wasn't to bad for the rest of the evening slept fine. The next day the boy that Laura is babysitting spends half the day on her lap with a fever and sore tummy. Knowing how fast these things can spread we think it will only be a matter of time before Caleb or Esthercome down with something.

Well nothing else happened to our kids. I came home from work, our babysitter was ready to take on the fort and off Laura and I were (quite eager to get away before something else could stop us) off to the train station.

The weekend was nice and relaxing. To sum it up we took the car to the Bronte Go station and took the train to Union. From there we took the subway to the corner were our hotel was. We checked in and found our nice but rather small room waiting for us. We unload our backpack which is all we took along for the weekend knowing we were going to be walking around and headed out for supper. We went all out for supper and ate at the Golden Griddle almost right across from the hotel.

The next morning we went out for breakfast again at the Golden Griddle where we enjoyed a brekfast buffet which actually cost us more than the supper we ate the night before. This buffet would hold us over until we made it to the show which started at 4:30.

And so after breakfast we return to the hotel and go to the front desk to finally get our voucher for the Medieval times show which is of course the reason we were here. Here I must interject some additional information. When I research the hotel packages I chose this particular hotel because it was in down town Toronto and "close" to the show. It had a nicer website than the other downtown choice we had and it was also the cheapest package if only by 10 dollars and best of all, it included a free Medieval Times hyper cup for each of us. Well how can you say no to a deal like that. Two free cups to forever remember this little getaway. Well below is a picture of the cup I was so looking forward to.

The cups are fairly large, able to hold almost 1 liter each. Also the Kool-Aid thing really didn't fit with the whole knights on horseback theme but hey we didn't really come for the cups right?

We spent some time in the pool and at 1 pm we checked out and decided that since the weather was nice and we had 3 hours to kill we would walk the 6 km to the show.

The show was great. Already when you walk in they are in costume and addressing us as Lords and Ladies and calling each other squires and wenches. They place a paper crown on your head which indicates which knight you are to cheer for. Everywhere you turned there were cups and swords and shirts to buy. We even bought some nice goblet style cups. The show was well done and the food was good (by the way in case you decide to go be prepared to eat with your hands... no utensils at this feast)

Unfortunately our knight didn't win but he did do a good job in some of the games. I would tell you more, but you should go and see it for yourself. I don't want to ruin the show for you!

The show ended giving us just enough time to get to the train station and make it back home. Now we wait for our next big adventure which will be our trip to Holland in May.

Sunday we headed up to my parents place with the kids. We compared their weekend outing in Niagara Falls to celebrate their anniversary.

Well that should bring everyone up to date. Things have been busy since then and even now I should have been working on other things.
