Camping!

Well, we made it back from a few days of camping ;) We were able to get out for several days and enjoy the great outdoors at Valens Conservation Area. Nice and close and the kids are familiar with it (and so are Mom and Dad!!). We had about the best week of the summer so far to camp in as well - sun, sun and more sun. It was perfect!

Our Tent

Our dining tent and the rest of our campsite
Alvar cooking up some sweet bacon and eggs for breakfast!
Each of the kids received "bug boxes" for the trip - highly recommended - this became hours of enjoyment for all of them!

Caleb became the proud owner of a toad - he thought this was about the best thing ever!! He took very good care of it (with some help from Daddy) and let him go at the end of the day.
Esther posing with Caleb's toad...we actually didn't get too many pictures of Esther, she was off on her bike most of the trip - and loved every second of freedom that came with it!
Climbing up the Lookout on the boardwalk trail
Enjoying the view
Throwing rocks in the water (a favourite for most kids!)
Every few steps Caleb would be down scratching his ankles - he was bit pretty bad by mosquitoes. It even got so bad that his ankles got swollen from all the bites and he couldn't walk for an evening, it was so sore - poor kid!
Some interesting fungus

Alvar trying to use Caleb to get some birch bark (so he could write a love letter to his wife on...aww, isn't that sweet!!) - unfortunately Caleb didn't think this was fun - so there was no birch bark to write on, and no love letter...maybe next time!

Anna exhausted after the hike!

The 'butterfly' - a hit for the kids again - quite enjoyed by Esther and some friends

Wow...check out that face full of "attitude"!!
The bug boxes came with magnifying glasses, tweezers and a flashlight. As you can see there are more than one uses for a magnifying glass!
Caleb - our future "Coldplay" singer!
