Tuesday we ventured around the camp group and took a hike. We started on a trail - but soon came to many "ends" - making for a longer trek - plus fearing the weather - we saw some pretty big bolts of lightening and heard the thunder - which made for a more stressful hike too! Thankfully the storm rolled around us and we got back to our campsite safe and dry!

We called this caterpillar the "spiky butt" caterpillar....Caleb was thoroughly impressed!

Fishing island (the closer rock pile) - a bunch of us canoed/kayaked to this little island and caught a ton of fish (a first for all of our kids!)

He (or she!) didn't seem to mind us taking pictures...they are certainly in a league all their own when it comes to being an insect!
Sara crashed nicely and had a good little nap (we even transferred her to her pack n play after the hike where she slept for another hour at least!
When we got back from the hike some fellow campers noticed that Serge's canopy was beginning to blow away, so they shrunk it down as far as it could go in order to stop the wind from picking it up. Jared enjoyed his lunch in his own private cabana ;)
We headed out for the locks in Kingston, on the way we looked into buying tickets for Fort Henry - we waited near the entrance and snapped some shots of the kids with the tanks. Funny thing happened while we were there...some other tourists (Chinese I believe) were also taking pictures of the tanks - and decided that our kids needed to be in their pictures also. So, Esther, Caleb and Anna all got their pictures taken with complete strangers...hmmm...maybe I should have at least charged them for using our kids!
At the Rideau Canal System - kids watching the locks. This lock system is all done by hand....each lock requires wheels to be turned by human hands! Crazy that it's still done that way - but neat to be able to see how it used to be done in the past...talk about working out your arm muscles!!

More caterpillars. I think the kids must have caught well over 50 caterpillars over the course of the week. Here is an inch worm....hmm...I think it's a caterpillar?

Once we got back to the campground, Serge, Alexis, Jared, Opa and Alvar and I ventured out with the kids (3 oldest) in the canoes and kayaks to go fishing on the rocky little island.

Hmmm...I didn't actually take this picture...they are of my feet - well, my new yellow water shoes to be exact. I guess Alvar thought they were beautiful? :)
